Reviewed: Altec Lansing M102 Octiv Mini

A lot of mobile phone speaker manufacturers seems to have dumped sophisticating devices and instead have started putting out more minimalistic styled simple devices.

The Altec Lansing M102 Octiv Mini is one such button-less device that is operated by an app-enhanced iPhone 4 or iPod Touch. Take away the iPhone app and the Octiv Mini is a basic iPod speaker. It's not a complete plug-and-play device though, for you have to manually launch the app to make use of some features. But playing music is a straight forward affair.

The volume range is good, and it has a fairly good sound for such a small speaker. Be aware that you have to change the volume on your iPod/mp3 player itself, as the speaker has no controls on it.

The product also ships with a kind of multi-plug - a single adaptor with an interchangeable pin that allows you to use any of the standard pins available without adding any bulk. Perfect for frequent travelers.

Review: Wireless Scope Node Laser Mouse

20110704_006.jpg
Just in for review from GearZap is the Elecom Scope Node Laser Mouse in it's wireless avatar. Opening up the box, the first impression is the ultra modern design of this mouse - not a surprise since it's German Japanese engineering. The Scope Node incorporates a laser sensor capable of achieving a higher recognition rate in low-contrast situations than that of a conventional optical mouse. The sensor can pick up subtle movement of the mouse and accurately translate the movement into the cursor movement.

First Impression: Apple MatteBook Pro Core i7 2.66 GHz 15"

My first Mac is on it's way, and here are some pics of this baby.
Ofcourse with all the negative opinion about the 2011 MBPS, I figured that I'd go for the 2010 model. Being a h8r of glossy screens I naturally selected the Hi-Res Matte screen. Glossy gives me teary glassy eyes. Besides I also get a weight reduction of 200gms since it lacks the slab of glass..

Benchmarking
I did a test run of cinebench, and the results were amazing to say the least. Not only did this refurbished machine give the promised benchmarks it also topped all the benchmark scores from similarly built MBPs at the Cinebench database. Amazing!
