India: Revised Call rates and data charges

With Mobile Number Portability just around the corner, competition between different telecom carriers are turning to all time high. Call rates have fallen so low that certain carriers have reached rock bottom at offering 0 charge calls as well! Unfortunately, the revised Vodafone rates are currently available only in Kerala sector (There is no news as of now that they will offer the same in other sectors).

Vodafone has two packs, viz. Rs. 95/- and Rs. 14/-. Both are available for customers only in the Kerala circle. Availing the above offers, customers can make use of various features like surfing the internet, using search engines, streaming of online videos, e-mail, accessing accounts on various social networking sites like Orkut, Facebook, Twitter etc. With the recharge of Rs. 95/- users are given unlimited data transfer, while the Rs. 14/- coupon allows users to have data transfer of up to 200 MB. The former has a validity of 30 days and the latter has a validity of 3 days.

Rs. 95/- recharge – Users can enjoy data transfer of up to 2 GB which will be valid for 30 days. To subscribe SMS ‘BONUS 95′ to 144
Rs. 14/- recharge – Users can enjoy data transfer of up to 200 MB which will be valid for 3 days. To subscribe SMS ‘BONUS 14′ to 144

The bonus cards do not offer connectivity via PC/Laptop. Offer is valid for Vodafone prepaid customers only.

Vodafone Care is no longer Toll Free

Vodafone India has changed the status of it's Care lines at the number 111 from Toll Free to paid. The paid status is only applicable to calls which are connected to the call center personnel so they won't charge you for browsing through the computer DTMF interface. The charges for contacting the care lines are at 50p per 3 minutes.

The reason for this change is probably part of their strategy to reduce the number of fake calls being made to customer care lines. Fake calls to care lines are a pain-in-the-a** to people handling these calls. You should hear some of the recordings which have been released.. it made me feel sorry for call center personnel. The frustration that they face is magnified by the fact that they can't talk back to the kind of emotional harasment that they face from most of these fake callers.. if it were me i'd be seriously pissed off!

With this new tactic in place I guess things might turn out to be better for them.

Vodafone India offers reduced call rate

"Hello! Recharge with 96 and enjoy all Local & National Calls and SMS
at 50p flat for 365 days. For details call Vodafone Customer care at
55555."
I think this is a better offer than the paisa billing offer of 1p per second.
Dial 123 (TollFree) to find out all about Value Added Services. Get
info on Callertunes, SMS BonusCards, Alerts and lots more. You can
also subscribe to any Value added services from there.

Vodafone India offers Second billing

Recharge for Rs.64 Today. Enjoy Unlimited Vodafone Calls (Local & STD)
@ 1 Paise / Sec + ALL Other Calls (Local & STD) @ 1.2 Paise / Sec for
1 Year.Call 121.
That would be the first Vodafone swipe against DoCoMo. But i like
Vodafone's 50p per minute offer far better than this.. It's much more
profitable for longer calls of 5 mins or longer.

Vodafones new GPRS offer, sane version

Vodafone has released a toned down version of GPRS in India. I should
say, the introductory offer was incredible - unlimited GPRS and MMS
for a whole month at just 2 dollars a month ! Talk about unbeatable
offers.. In fact it almost seems insane at that rate !!

But the new offer is a little more in with the current rates of rival
service providers. It gives you the chance to browse for 50MB a month
inclusive of MMS at the sane rate of 2 dollar/month. Hmmm...

The Making of Zoozoo - Vodafone's mascots ?

If you've been watching the Indian Premier League games, you'd have already met Zoozoo - Vodafone's new Mascots. They are the cutest things yet to appear on advertising and I love their pretty antics. Shown below is the making of a Zoozoo episode:
