Nokia releases new firmware update for Nokia N96

As feature-packed and stylishly designed as the Nokia N96 is, the N96 has been plagued with stability and performance problems. But, that’s all about to change with the new Nokia N96 firmware. The new firmware update from Nokia promises to make the Nokia N96 faster, improves camera accuracy, and increases WiFi reception range.

Nokia N96 owners looking to tune-up their handset can download the Nokia N96 v12.043 update through the Software Updater. MobileBurn is also reporting that the firmware update may be available through the Nokia N96’s OTA (over-the-air) update utility. To wireless download the update, simply dial *#0000# from the stand-by screen and then navigate to Options>Check for update.

N96 gaming - 4 in a line

What was it that attracted you to the Nokia N96? Was it the large 2.8-inch display? The robust 16 GB capacity of internal memory? How about the integrated 3D stereo speakers? I’m sure all of these features played a part in your decision. When combined with mobile game support, all of them make the Nokia N96 the ultimate gaming platform, just like the PSP.

Four In A Line

Four In A Line offers the perfect solution for diehard games who need that quick fix while out on the road. The object of the game is simple - get four pieces in a line whether it’s in vertical, horizontal or diagonal form. Sure, it sounds easy but one wrong move and your chances of winning are reduced significantly. Keep your eye on that tricky computer. If you’re not careful, it will beat you with ease.

The N96 Updated Yet Again - v11.101 Is Out

The latest update takes the firmware upto V11.101 and is available via the Nokia Software Updater as well as ‘over the air’ though i'd recommend a good data plan for that - besides being able to stay in range.

The update is available for most unbranded product codes, including the Euro ones. In case you want to check whether its available for your’s simply head over to this page.

Nokia N96 in the Indian sub-continent

The new nseries, the N96, which was introduced to the world in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, seems to be already available in India.
The Nokia 6220 Classic was also first launched in India before it came to Europe and the rest of the world seemingly Nokia plans to repeat this strategy with the N96 as well..

Even one of the local language dailies in Kerala had recently published an article concerning this.. wonder what's happening...

Paid Upgrade to S60 v3 fp 2 ?

Do you think they should have a paid Upgrade to S60 v3 fp 2 ? The Nokia N95 Blog investigates balancing the need for Nokia to turn up huge profits on one hand and giving better customer satisfaction. Personally I think they need to take care of customer satisfaction a bit more than their current ways. But of course I've heard that most of their huge profits are re-invested back into the fight to get out the best handset yet, and with recent times the fight has grown, with the new slew of phones from SonyEricson and Motorola.

Mining for lost SMS messages?

If you by chance happened to delete your messages, and feel like reading them again, then here's what Kishore from mynokiamobile.blogspot.com says you gotta do:

To do this you need to have FExplorer on your Nokia Phone. (or click on the link)

  1. Open FExplorer.
  2. Select drive C: or D: depending on the memory in which the SMS messages have been saved.
  3. In my case I selected C: , Then open "system" folder. Then in the "system" folder open "mail" folder. Then in this folder u will see different folders (eg 0010001_s) and certain files (eg 00100000). These files are the actually messages.
  4. Browse through each folder and chack for the file till u get the one that you are looking for.( a very tiring process..Zzzzzzzzzz)
  5. For opening the files don't choose options>file>open as it will show format not supported rather choose options>file>hex/text viewer. By selecting the "Hex/ text viewer" you ll be able to open and read the deleted SMS message.
Have a great time mining though your collections! ;)

N96 - is it worth it?

From what I've heard the N96 doesn't have anything new to go with it except the looks... This smartphone is based on the Symbian S60 3rd Edition operation system, with Feature Pack 2, and sports a DVB-H digital TV receiver and innovative kickstand for watching video on the handset’s beautiful 2.8″ QVGA display. There are connection options aplenty, including quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and dual-band WCDMA (850/2100MHz) as well as WiFi and support for HSDPA for high speed data connections.

A built-in GPS receiver works with the new Nokia Maps 2.0, preloaded on the N96, to keep you on the right path. Nokia’s updated Share Online enables the N96 to automatically geotag your photos and upload them to Flickr or Share on Ovi so that the world can see where you travel. 16GB of internal flash memory and a microSD memory card slot with support for cards up to 16GB mean you’ll never run out of space for photos, music, and games.
The N96 makes it easy to share your media with friends via a TV-Out cable and UPnP support. This slider smartphone is expected to start shipping in Q3 2008 with pricing set at 550EUR (US$802) before taxes and subsidies.
