N95 gets telescope add-on! and i get it too!!

I just posted the other day about a 6x lens for the n95 as part of my Snap iT! series..and I'd concluded by giving a hint about a personal review for that accessory. And Guess what?! The guys at Brando just sent me a brand new Generic Mobile Phone Telescope.

This Generic Mobile Phone Telescope with flexible adapter to mount 7x18 telescope. It can use on most of mobile phones or PDAs. With this telescope, you can zoom to focus distant objects clearly and to make a high quality photograph easily.

You'll notice that with the telescope fitted on the n95 it actually looks like something from a Hitman Game!

Unlike what I'd figured, setting up the phone was very easy. In minutes of receiving the phone I'd got it all set-up and ready to shoot! To give you all a good idea of how much Zoom we can squeeze out of this lens, I've put up a video over here. After all seeing is believing! Especially in this case!! (don't mind the clarity, it's due to the 3GP conversion)


The lens is of very good build and is excellent bang for buck - I mean at 22 bucks it really is a steal! And what's more, all products bought this season get free shipping as part of their annual offer. Zooming is really easy with the lens and focussing is just as simple - you needn't worry if the image isn't perfect, the in-built Auto-Focus of the phone will set it right.

Another thing that needs to be pointed out is that when under image mode you'll see a dark shadow touching the corners, but that is easily cropped using the phones editor. The video doesn't have this problem though as shown in this video.

The second video featured is how to set-up the lens onto the N95, a simple little job as it is.

iGo Everywhere - Power and charge!

They sent one of these to me...and I'm absolutely Loving iT!!
There are some really annoying things about traveling around with a load of the latest gadgets with you, but the worst thing is when one of your gadgets battery runs out or is so low that you have to switch it if just to save the battery in case you will need it in an emergency. ANd the worst part is that companies like Nokia take it that they have to manufacture almost everything related with mobiles - even Mobile computing,GPS,hi-res cams,etcetera but they don't have the time to design a decent battery!

Well iGo must have been listening to the all those tech-savvy die hard travelers for they have come up with the ultimate universal wall and auto adapter, this is every adapter that anyone will ever need whether you are in the car or in a hotel room, the only thing that you should need to do is change the end of the adapter(the power tip) suitable for the device that needs power, and that's it, simple but effective for mobile phones, blue tooth headsets, PDA’s, portable music players, portable games consoles and digital cameras, plus there may be a few more that may need some charging up.

Basically it is a single power cable that fits both the mains plug and the in-car cigarette lighter. You then buy the appropriate tips to match your gadget – be it a mobile, handheld games console, MP3 player, Bluetooth headset, or basically anything, with only a few exceptions. There’s even a Power Splitter available which let’s you charge two devices at the same time. Neat,eH?

This product is so versatile that it's quite possible that all other chargers would become obsolete, as it's much easier to carry around one charger than a whole bag of different chargers and adapters for each device that you own.

Why Nokia? Why do you do this??

The N95 is indeed a great camera-phone. It has loads of great
features, 5MP sensor, 30fps video recording, auto-focus camera,
Carl-Zeiss lens, great color recreation, and a whole load of
customization features.

What it lacks is a Video Editor.

I know, I know, it does have one. But have you ever been able to use
it for editing one of those 5MP videos of yours? If yes you'll have
ended up face to face with the now famous slogan of the N95 -[b]
Memory full! Close some programs and try again.
And it flashes up even if you do close all programs, with the video
editor being the only open app. Neat little joke by Nokia huh? But i
think it sucks!
Why did they put in the video editor anyway?? I never understood why they did that..

Ah..and I think Nokia heard my complaints and responded to it
too..albeit in a sad kinda way.


It happened when they brought tout the N95 8GB. A phone that boasts of
128MB RAM, something that we'd begun to see only in computers from
2001. With that kind of RAM I would have been happy editing videos to
glory on my phone. But of course Nokia, by some strike of genius
didn't even include the feature in the handset. Now don't ask me why!
Why they did it, I believe, is, and will remain, a mystery for ages to come.



Update!



Now they plan to bring out the Nokia N96!

Even though Nseries stands for NextGen handsets the only nextGen the N96 packs is a different look - the features are more less the same as in the N95. You only get an extra 16GB of onboard memory and a dual LED flash, which isn'nt that bad., but it ain't worth the money no matter what anyone says!

Worlds of Mobile And Social Networking..

The worlds of mobile and social networking keep circling each other but (the hibernating Jaiku aside) never seem to really hit it off. Ewan Spence has been looking at Zyb, an online sync host and social network that launched recently. How integrated is Zyb and is it worth signing up for yet?

"So Zyb has many things going for it, but most of these things are only slightly above what you would expect. You have solid sync, but that option is available from many companies, e.g. Mobical or GooSync. You have a no-frills social network competing with similar networks with much greater complexity.

But, most importantly, you have a mobile focussed product with very little mobile component to it. I’d love to come back in six months, see what’s happening on the handset and recommend Zyb then, because right now I don’t think “that’s cute and looks nice” is enough to give it more than a qualified nod of the head.

Major Firmware update for N73 ME

Symbian-Freak has discovered yet another new Nokia N73 Music Edition firmware,the version: 3.0705.1.0.31. And as usual, no change log has been found as of yet.

It seems as though it's more stable and a tad quicker than previous builds, but I'm still skeptical. However, I'm very tempted to go ahead and complete the package. I'll update if we have a changelog or anything pop up. In the mean time I plan to install the firmware on my friends N73 Me and see how it turns out ;)

N95 8 GB onto firmware V15.0.015

A lot of new changes have been announced with the arrival of the New firmware for the N95 8 GB he v15. A list of the slew of features that have been spotted on the new firmware as well as the bugs that have been "Quashed under the hood!" as Steve and Rafe from AAS say, well it's all here. rotateMe v2.0 Beta 5 released

Samir is going to publish the rotateMe v2.0 Beta 5 for the public due to the humungous amounts of e-mails that he recieved recquesting him to do so.

There are lors of new features in this Version of his great app which includes(at last!) a feature to hide the app from the task manager. Move over here to get more info and click here to get the app! Remember though that the app is unsigned, you'll have to sign it yourself.

Ten pros and cons for the N95 - 1vs2

It' sleek and black. It's got 128Mb of RAM. The dual processors clocked at 320 Mhz take care of things no matter how hard they are shoved at them. Demand paging makes the new N95-2 a super zippy device and the 8GB of embedded memory sure is indeed a great deal of space. The screen is a lot larger than you'd think from the stats and it's stunningly bright not to mention how it has been brought ot be flush with the device. There's 25% more juice in the battery and a slew of other tasty features... but is there a price to pay?

Of course! You should know by now that not even Nokia can create the perfect device for every user (they purposefull do so!business tactics?) - so here's a list of ten pros and ten cons that I've come up with over the past month of exposure to this new variant of "the legendary", the Nokia N95 8GB aka N95-2.

Slow Performance on the N95-2

You may have the latest firmware V 11.0.026 01-11-07 RM-320 Nokia (16.01) but your phone still seems to be slow?? Don't worry 'cuz you're just one of many users who have had the similar problem - and it may just be a side effect of tha main reason why you bought the N95-2 the first place - namely the 8GB storage.

At the Nokia Forums, the debate seems to be goiing in full swing on this one,

I *think* the Gallery scans the card when you open it .. at least, logic
says it must as it finds new files without having to be manually refreshed like
the music player.If it does, then having a larger card with more files would
mean the phone taking a bit longer to work its way through the list of
files.

Nokia Energy Profiler

Fed up with those battery drinking programs that you've installed lately? Well why don't you un-install them then? Or is it that you can't find which apps are good on mileage and which are not? Fear no more, with the Nokia Energy Profiler you'll be able to get the battery drain for a particular app in real time! Ofcourse it's of particular use to developers, but there's nothign in it that say we can't use it.

With the help of a Red dot and graph, it will show exactly hoe the app used up your battery.. neat eH?

N82 vs N95-1 - Speed Test

All in all you can say, that both phones are pretty fast. Nevertheless the N82 is a little bit faster than the N95. It needs 3 seconds less to boot and also some seconds less to save a picture. However, it’s really mind-blowing when you compare the speed improvement of the new N95 firmware. Maybe the N82 becomes even faster with a new firmware, which I would welcome.

N95 FirmwWare updated too! :D

Guys and gals, the v20 is out! And it brings with it a load of goodies for all n95ers to have! A glimpse at the change log was all it needed for me to almost loose my sanity. And then I did loose it, when I cancelled my 720 MB video download to make more bandwidth for my NSU to feast on :D!

This is the evergreen ChangeLog(this must be the most-used word among symbian bloggers):

1. New icon structure with addition of the N-Gage application and one free demo of fifa which can be played 10 times.
2. Search app has its own place in the active standby
3. Phone is much faster to operate and the real difference is seen in the boot time!(see it to believe it!)
4. Multimedia menu still the same but does not pop up on opening the slider in the opposite direction.
5. Free memory between 22-30 mb during normal usage.
6. Camera has NEW auto focus sound
7. Viewfinder grid added in the camera menu
8. VIDEO ringtones. Native support for video ringtones finally added.
9. Radio has a new icon.
10. Music player has a new icon for podcasts, alongwith a new Visualization called Circles, and also new buttons on the Screen for the audio controls.
11. Gallery opens really quick and (i think) it has a new animation in flipping pictures.

14. Maps app revised but not gone out on the road to see how soon it locks.

22. Using the VGA Video calling camera, the camera sound (2) does not play properly (sorry for listing the stupidest of things, but these come to mind)

24. Showing of Videos in the ringtones to choose for profiles, and the video playback on receiving the call is GOOD and quick but does not play in fullscreen in landscape mode.
25. New version of quickoffice.
26. Same old barcode reader and zip applications.
27. New icon for Radio and segregation of similar items in the Media Folder.
28. Addition of Utilities folder.
29. Better handling of calls, and no TALKBACK(echo) heard in speaker, as heard before, sometimes.

Now hopefully we can hope for some battery life improvement too! The Nokia Maps update is the same as earlier but the N-Gage demos are is a real hot spot! This firmware will definitely make the N95 the better phone and for once you can think twice about moving over to the N95 8 GB ;)

N95 8 GB firmware - updated!

While the whole of the Symbian world is busy behind the proposed v21 N95 firmware Nokia's released an update for the N95 8GB. That's right, an update already, when the phone's not even started crawling yet! Whywould anyone get a toddler a car when his older brother's still waiting for his bike?

I mean the N95-3 was released just a few weeks ago! AAS thinks that it's probably just a quick bug fix and not a full fledged update - theN95 8GB's Internet browser did have some serious stability problemsthat users had been complaining about..some users are also hoping for a normal portrait screensaver to show up as well - seems they're fed up with the landscape one!

V21 for our N95-1!?

It's not a 21 valve engine but for all I know the new V21 Firmware update for the N95-1 is sure gonna rock..considering that Nokia is going to have to add lots of new stuff in the firmware like the Search, N-Gage and a solution to sinister key press bug. Not to mention about On Demand Paging and other features designed to bump up the performance! You know what this means?no?? We're gonna get a N95-1 with more RAM people!!

But the problem is that the firmware pic has been dates as 10th October! How come no one's got it still remains a mystery...:(

There lingers a doubt in my mind however, on whether the Demand Paging feature will make the phone slower upon everyday use. The pagingfeature actually stores bits of software data on RAM.When these data are moved to the main memory there would be more of a lag when the phone fetches the data - which happens when we open a app or run a game. After all there must have been a reason why the original designers decided to place it on the system RAM instead of on the main memory. Oh well,, let's just cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Have you heard of the recent rumours doing the rounds? the one about the total free RAM increasing to a good 30mb. If that's true then I wouldn't give a **** whether the phone's faster or slower... 30MB of free RAM 8-)

If you’re an owner of the N95 classic, you just got more reasons to hold on to your device than I'd provided before. After the screenshots tipped up yesterday, today Symbian Freak has the juicy details regarding this magical firmware that is not only supposed to bring things like Demand Paging, the new Search app introduced on the N76 and new folders and application including the N-Gage app. If that wasn’t enough the device’s free RAM jumps from 18-20Mb to almost a whopping 30Mb! No word if the new multimedia menu has made its way into the old faithful, chances are it will.

Why EDGE versus 3G matters less than you think - MWN 3

We've all read articles about why the iPhone won't sell because it doesn't boast the latest and greatest 3G technology, which can transmit data at 1.8, 3.6, 7.2, and in some places, 14.4 megabits per second. Instead, Apple chose to go with the more ubiquitous EDGE system, which tops out at 0.2 mbits per second here in the US, and presumably will do the same in the UK and Germany when the iPhone launches there next month.

But the question left unasked as been, "Does 3G really improve the user experience dramatically?" Most pundits would reply, "Well, of course Internet experiences improve with higher bandwidth. That's why the world went broadband." And if the pundit is having a bad day, they'll add "Duh.." Funny thing though. They're wrong. Bandwidth doesn't affect the mobile phone experience nearly as much as most people think. And in some cases, high bandwidth Internet is actually worse for the user than a low-bandwidth one.Guess there are disadvantages on surfing from a mobile phone! How can this be?
