MNP nationwide release fixed - TRAI ironing out issues

TRAI examined the issues raised by the service providers and noted that the procedure for the mobile number portability (MNP) does not require the operator to carry out any significant work and insofar as switch-over of a subscriber is concerned.
"A subscriber is free to terminate his connection with a service provider at any time - the only requirement being that the subscriber should clear his outstanding dues," the TRAI statement said.

It also directed service providers to treat the SMS sent to short code number 1900 as ordinary SMS for the purpose of charging.

"The rate for such messages shall not exceed the tariff applicable for ordinary SMS under the tariff plan opted by the subscriber,"
the statement added.

The much talked about mobile number portability was recently launched in Haryana circle and now awaits a nation-wide launch on Jan 20, 2011.

The service allows a customer to change his operator while retaining the same number. A customer has to pay a maximum of Rs.19 to the new operator for porting his number. The minimum stay period for a customer to retain the new operator is three months.

The customers have to send an SMS from their phone to 1900, based on which they get a unique porting code from the existing provider. Thereafter they have to fill a application mentioning the code to the selected new service provider for transferring the number.

Android 2.2 arrived for Indian Samsung Galaxy S

Loads of bug fixes and tweaks later Android 2.2 has arrived for the Samsung Galaxy S. The initial UK release had been haunted by bugs and problems that had left updated phones in a frustrated state similar to PR1.1 users of the Nokia n900.

The Indian release however runs on a more stable version that promises to be easier on the nerves than it's predecessor.

I do wish maemo gets a bit more stable soon.

Nokia N8 - powered by flaws?

Nokia, the world's top cellphone maker, has said that some of its flagship N8 smartphones were sold with a power fault that meant they switched themselves off.

Nokia sales chief Niklas Savander said "a limited number of N8 users" were facing the problem of their phones switching off, and they are not able to turn them on again.

A spokesman said the fault was due to a problem in production, which has since been fixed.

The fault in the power management stems from the way in which the engine component -- which includes most of the technology in the phone, excluding covers and batteries -- in the Nokia N8 was being installed.

"If you look at the total number it is a small number," Savander said in a video on company website.

Telecom minister endorsing Idea Cellular?

To demonstrate the launch, the minister made the first call from a "ported" mobile phone to Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The operator, according to officials here, was changed from a state-run company to Idea Cellular.

Haryana has a total of eight operators including Airtel, Idea Cellular , state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam, Aircel, Loop, Vodafone, Etisalat and Videocon.

WHILE I KNOW A LOT OF LONG TIME USERS OF PRIVATE TELCOM WHO WANT TO SHIFT THEIR NUMBER TO BSNL OUR TELCOM MINISTER SHIFTS FROM PSU TO PRIVEATE CARRIER IDEA CELLULAR. I WONDER WHAT THE ENDORSEMENT FEES ARE LIKE?

Motorola facing Ban in US

Apple filed the complaint against Motorola on October 29 after Motorola filed its own patent-infringement claims at the ITC in Washington on October 6. The Apple complaint also names Motorola Mobility, which will be spun off by Motorola next year. Additionally, Apple filed a civil suit in October against Motorola in federal court in Madison, Wisconsin. MotoJustice!

The investigation adds to the cases pending before the ITC over the technology behind the growing market for smartphones, which can perform some of the functions of computers. The line has been crossed between computers and smartphones and now a slew of patent infringements will be filed by every company hoping to make a quick buck out of all the confusion. Motorola of Schaumburg, Illinois, also has patent fights at the ITC with Microsoft Corp, while Cupertino, California-based Apple is in fights with HTC Corp and Nokia Oyj.
