Nokia N8 to have a successor, comes with optical Zoom

Nokia seems to be mighty confused on what OS it really needs to use. So instead of concentrating on one it's spreading it's legs into 2 boats: Symbian and Windows. Not to mention the occasional case of MeeGo or Maemo. Despite the obvious move toward the Windows Phone 7 OS for all their new devices, the successor Nokia’s flagship model, the N8, will still use the Symbian OS.

It is still unclear which version of Symbian will be used as the latest iteration doesn’t have support for the resolution the new device is rumored to sport.  Other features of this new phone are as follows:

• bigger camera sensor (not sure about resolution),
• optical zoom!
• 3.5” WVGA Clear Black display with Gorilla Glass,
• 1GHz CPU,
• 512MB of RAM

This has got to be one gadget of a phone, the Optical zoom reminds me of the days of the Nokia N93. The N8 successor is scheduled for Q2 2012 release, and may be launched at Mobile World Congress in February.

Nokia N8: Get Angry Birds

Every Nokia owner is excited about the Nokia Angry Birds cases  - and they're finally here! =) MobileFun has got the cases for the N8 (red, green & black), C6 (black, red & green), C7 (red) and E7 (red, green & black). They have come into stock this week and news is in that they're already flying off the shelves.  That's no surprise as everyone loves Angry Birds!

Nokia N8: Anna and Magenta

Nokia has released a N8 in what seems to be a hot pink or magenta color. That handset already has most of the VIBGYOR in it's line, and will soon be adding a shade of light red to its anodized aluminum case. Observing the image above, the pink N8 will also feature the updated Symbian Anna, though Nokia unfortunately fails to tell us when we may expect this hopefully refreshed OS to arrive. The color looks overrated to me.

Nokia N8: Surpassed Expectations

When I first came across images of the N8 on the web I'd thought of it as yet another chunky Nokia flagship device. And it ran symbian too.. Ugh! Thus thinking I had made up my mind to ignore the device.

That's when I got a email from Katie offering me a trial run of the N8 for a couple of weeks. A friend saw the message and knowing that I wouldn't accept he offered to help review the device. Then one thing leads to another and next thing I know is DHL delives the device and my friend shows me the phone.

Biased as I was against it, holding the N8 in my hands made me think twice. This device is way sleeker and far more elegant than i had imagined. The ergonomics of this device is excellent and the anodised aluminium feels good and firm. Definitely a solid built phone.

Nokia N8 - powered by flaws?

Nokia, the world's top cellphone maker, has said that some of its flagship N8 smartphones were sold with a power fault that meant they switched themselves off.

Nokia sales chief Niklas Savander said "a limited number of N8 users" were facing the problem of their phones switching off, and they are not able to turn them on again.

A spokesman said the fault was due to a problem in production, which has since been fixed.

The fault in the power management stems from the way in which the engine component -- which includes most of the technology in the phone, excluding covers and batteries -- in the Nokia N8 was being installed.

"If you look at the total number it is a small number," Savander said in a video on company website.

Nokia c6 c7 e7 n8 and everything else

Ever since the release of Apple’s iPhone 4 and the storm it has been creating in the telecom world, I have been wondering how the other major mobile phone giants could ever hope to cope with this. But my thoughts have been proven absolutely wrong by Nokia when it announced its 3 new smartphones – Nokia C6, C7 & E7 and also showcased Nokia N8 at the Nokia World 2010 held in London(14th-15th september).

Well, frankly speaking, i neither go to the event nor i experienced the  devices in my hands. I am just sharing some very great insights into these smartphone devices, courtesy the Nokia bloggers from around the world who had gone there in person.

Nokia N8: Will we see it?

Update: Nokia N8 has been sighted at outlets.

It had been revealed by Nokia India that the flagship Nokia N8 will be launched by the end of the third quarter, that is by end of September. But so far, there has been no news of this highly hyped device, which leads us to believe that the N8 will be delayed like every other flagship that Nokia has brought out since they started the NSeries line 5 years ago.

Contacting the guys at Nokia has seen them denying the fact that the Nokia N8 is delayed.

A review came in today of an experience with the nokia n8.. sadly no pics though. So I've attached a generic pic from Nokia so that you can fill your eyes with it as your dream about this little monster,,

Features (5/5)
The Nokia N8 is nothing less than a computer. 12MP camera with Xenon flash, 3.5 inch AMOLED display, Aluminium body, HDMI output, 3D Graphics Accelerator. Also included Quad band GSM and 5 band-yes thats right!!, a 5band support for UMTS / HSDPA... Phew!!
I think Nokia has done a terrific job of fitting all these in a small package. 5/5 for features.

Navigation(5/5)
Have to give a 5, though Nokia (Ovi) maps are not the best, but get the work done well, and its free..!! Satellite lock from cold start was pretty fast, and navigation was effortless.

Ergonomics (2/5) and Build Quality (3/5)
Encased by a aluminuim body (feels metal) which can withstand a ding or two without issues. Problem areas are the top and bottom covers which are flimsy, and are plastic.
The screen is capacitive, and touch response is good, better than other Nokia touchscreens. Home, Call connect and end keys-(3 physical keys), these are a nightmare, and are not tactile. The call connect and end buttons are the smallest that i have seen in any phone.
Otherwise, its a pleasure to hold the wide, and handy Nokia N8. The screen picks up fingerprint.
The SIM slot and microSD card slot, both are on the left side, and the cover had an annoying tendency to fall off.

Battery Life (3/5)- Initial results.
Ran the N8 with all connectivity options enabled, and it did manage to survive more than a day.

Camera (5/5)-Initial results.
Just one word-Amazing. Really good to see a Nokia produce images that can compete with any of the other 12MP smartphones. Colors look natural, not saturated or processed unlike other Nokia phones. Video is HD quality.

Speed (4/5)
The N8 is fast, but not in the league of iphone 3GS or for example a HTC Touch HD2(checked out with my friends), both of which feel lot smoother while transitioning between screens.

Connectivity (5/5)
Has it all. Quad Band GSM, 5 Band UMTS/HSDPA, PNP.

The QWERTY keyboard on the N8 has been said to be slightly revamped especially for the vertical configuration. Jay Montano has written about it with a few pics at mynokiablog.

Glamour-wise the Nokia N8 is being acclaimed to be one of the best looking handsets out in the market right now. There also seems to be a little doubt floating about concerning the final design of the wrist-strap holes.

Rumours are already afloat as to the expected release date for the Nokia N8 with the latest date being the 24th of August. Amazon's Germany portal has already begun taking pre-orders for the Nokia N8 to satisfy early adopters and gadget freaks.
