N800 - an overview

The N800 is an evolutionary step above the older model, the 770. Featuring a 320 Mhz TI CPU, two SD slots, 128 MB RAM, 256 MB flash storage, dual mini-SD slots, 4.1" 800x480 touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphones jack and mini-USB port. On the top of the device you will find the zoom buttons, the fullscreen on/off button and the microphone while on the front of the device there is a 5-way joypad and 3 additional buttons: close application/window, application's menu and task-switch. On the left side there is a retractable VGA video-call camera. Below the device you will find a very practical kickstand, which is very nice if you are using your N800 to watch movies in style. The kickstand has two levels, allowing the N800 to "sit back" nicely.

The Nokia N800 is by no means a replacement for a cellphone, rather it is intended to complement them enhancing their usefulness. The Nokia N800 is actually a new breed of gadgets, called Internet Tablet, which are designed to perform an Internet related task. The Nokia N800’s sole purpose is to provide easy access to Internet related features, such as web browsing, instant messenger, Internet calling, Internet radio, e-mail and so on as well a slew of other cool features..You could keep it as a replacement for your coffee table book maybe?!

The touch Screen of the n800 is pretty nice but it is extremely prone to scratches, and as they accumulate over time things it tends to get really bad.

Another problem that I've found also relating to the is flickering. It becomes really noticeable especially when you're playing music at full volume and the screen goes into standby. I think it's got to do with the power management program since it occurs only when the screen is dimmer.

And speaking about music playback, my first impression judging by the size of the speakers turned out to be a rather big underestimation..my nokia 5300 has better sound output.

The handwriting recognition software is really great once you get used to the experience. It can even recognize strike out and will erase the striked text.

In the following post I will be focusing on the N800 and it's stuff, with videos here ,until then Adios!

N95 in pink!

Some real ccol pics of the N95 in pink clothing, i luv it.. reminds of a post that I'd done some time back..
I've included one pic here, you can see the rest of them at Dailymobile.se.

N800 - builD!

It looks quite sophisticated with the chrome rimmed black and silver design. The Build quality and ergonomics of the N800 is excellent, feels solid, with no squeaks unlike my N95.. I’ve didn't like the cheap "chrome" plastic on the N95, which eventually came of to show the transparent plastic beneath, but on the n800 it looks and feels like it's actual chrome! Stand: The stand creates a 90 degree angle with the Nokia N800 when fully extended and can be adjusted to a 45 degree position as well. It allows the N800 to rest in a nice angle allowing for easy viewing of whatever you have playing on it.

Camera - The camera is used for video calls, capable of 640 x 480 resolution. When the camera is ejected with a press, the video application automatically loads, so there’s no need to fumble through the menus. Don’t expect stellar results from this video camera, the video quality is rather poor, noise is very apparent even in excellent lighting conditions. The camera can also be rotated a full 180 degrees.

Storage - The Nokia N800 has two memory stick slots, the external one is found on the bottom right while the internal is positioned to the left of the battery. Supported memory stick types are as follows; SD, MicroSD, MiniSD, MMC, and RS-MMC. Maximum capacity for a single memory stick is 2GB, so overall memory capacity can reach 4GB. There is a key difference between the external and internal memory, the internal can be used as virtual memory while the external cannot.

In this post I will be focusing on the N800 and it's overview, with videos here ,until then Adios!

DLNA for n95-2

Espoo, Finland - Nokia announced yesterday that the Nokia N95 8GB had the distinction of being the first ever mobile phone to receive Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) certification. The DLNA is a body advocating the interoperability of wired and wireless consumer devices. For the consumer, this accolade translates into convenient and intuitive connectivity between your DLNA Certified home electronics devices, personal computers, and your Nokia N95 8GB.
DLNA technology enables multi-vendor home ecosystems of consumer devices by building a common connectivity platform for a variety of multimedia experiences. This vision is fully in line with the Nokia’s aspiration for openness and seamless interoperability between devices and services from different brands.

Worlds of Mobile And Social Networking..

The worlds of mobile and social networking keep circling each other but (the hibernating Jaiku aside) never seem to really hit it off. Ewan Spence has been looking at Zyb, an online sync host and social network that launched recently. How integrated is Zyb and is it worth signing up for yet?

"So Zyb has many things going for it, but most of these things are only slightly above what you would expect. You have solid sync, but that option is available from many companies, e.g. Mobical or GooSync. You have a no-frills social network competing with similar networks with much greater complexity.

But, most importantly, you have a mobile focussed product with very little mobile component to it. I’d love to come back in six months, see what’s happening on the handset and recommend Zyb then, because right now I don’t think “that’s cute and looks nice” is enough to give it more than a qualified nod of the head.

Koss P9 - perfect for Mobile users on the move

The Koss P9 In-Ear Headphones with Volume Control features a convenient volume control feature that can be easily adjusted on the fly. Lightweight with a comfortable behind-the-head design, these headphones are made to be worn for long periods of time and are perfect for listeners on the go. Compared with the regular headset available with the N95 the Koss P9 offers almost the same output in terms of sound, but the added bonus is that it has much more stylish looks.

One of the other applications that I found for it's side-firing design is that it's more wearable than usual headsets when your on a motorbike - it's design is kind of aerodynamic that there's less chance of the headset falling off when you're at high speed. Moreover the side-firing technology means you're more likely to hear horns and other external sounds from your surroundings - leading to a safer experience. Obviously no one would use Noise Cancelling Phones when on the road - you won't even hear the Traffic Police man's whistle!!

On the other hand it's sound isn't that much of a reason to go for it. It lacks the bass that Koss advertises so much, and the some frequencies are really bad. Upon comparison with the Standard Nokia headset that comes with the N95 - the Koss P9 is somewhat 80% there.

Major Firmware update for N73 ME

Symbian-Freak has discovered yet another new Nokia N73 Music Edition firmware, the version: 3.0705.1.0.31. And as usual, no change log has been found as of yet.

It seems as though it's more stable and a tad quicker than previous builds, but I'm still skeptical. However, I'm very tempted to go ahead and complete the package. I'll update if we have a changelog or anything pop up. In the mean time I plan to install the firmware on my friends N73 Me and see how it turns out ;)
