The UK became a happier country today..

.. because all its n900 owners just got access to PR1.1.1. The full code is : 3.2010.02-8.201.1
Of course users from elsewhere in the world had already got the update from the repository back on February 16th. Then there were those users who flashed to the global image so that they could have a taste of PR 1.1.1 themselves.

This is also said to be sort of a forerunner to get the firmware ready for a major update to PR1.2, though no one's sure when that might show up - if it ever does!

Print pictures direct from your phone

I've been looking all around for a way to print pictures from my n900 without having to pay the studio a visit with my microSD. Even maemo.org is busy at this. And then comes this cute gadget that i came across the other day.

Polaroid PoGo™ is a portable, inkless digital photo printer that produces full-color images using somewhat the same technology as our old polaroid cams. Weighing only eight ounces, it'll let you easily print pictures from your phone.

Connecting via Bluetooth or PictBridge, Polaroid PoGo™ uses a revolutionary ZINK™ Zero-Ink™ Printing Technology to produce borderless, full-color, 2-inch by 3-inch prints in less than 60 seconds.

Vodafone and HTC Magic pull out a new trick

Vodafone the " world's leading mobile telecommunications company" has pulled out a new trick from its HTC Magic - in the form of a Butterfly!

But what caught the attention of Panda Security researchers was that this was no ordinary butterfly. It was a Mariposa Butterfly. And No, they weren't stunned because they had come across a new specimen of butterflies either. This one was encountered in a security scan and turned out to be W32.Pilleuz, a botkit.
"Once infected you can see the malware 'phoning home' to receive further instructions, probably to steal all of the user's credentials and send them to the malware writer," said Bustamante from Panda Security.

Since most software comes bundled these days, these guys decided to pack in a Confiker and a Lineage password stealing malware as well. Given on the right is the infection stats of the Mariposa bot kit from Symantec, and as you can see India leads with a 42% infected rate.

Panda Security is planning to acquire more HTC Magic handsets to verify whether this is an isolated case or part of a greater evil plan.

sfbags: Suede cover for the n900

This a slipcase/pouch type case made from a microfiber a soft synthetic suede like material. It is a very soft material and will not scratch the phone. It can also be used to clean the phone in a pinch. The model reviewed came with an additional pocket that can be used to carry the cleaning cloth provided by Nokia or Memory cards etc.

The bags are made in San Fransisco, CA in the USA and it is very high quality. This type of case serves a very specific function which is to prevent the phone from scratches. It is very thin and adds minimal bulk so that it can be used to carry the phone in a pocket. It provides no impact protection whatsoever but it doesn't claim to either.

The fit is perfect and the N 900 slides in there with just the right effort. The Case is also slightly stretchy which makes it easier to put the phone into the case and makes it easier to take out. If you add a scratch-proof screen protector (like the Zagg InvisibleShield), then coins or keys can be carried in the pocket/hand bag along the phone and there will be no damage to the phone.

Overall if you are looking for a case that adds minimal bulk to the phone and protects it from scratches while in the pocket or a bag or to put on the desk then you will be very happy with the Suede Jacket Cell Phone Case. It is very high quality well made case with a perfect fit.

The company describes this way:
It doesn't get any thinner than this! This Ultrasuede® slipcase prevents scratches on your cell phone. The elasticity of the pocket keeps it flat when empty and stretchy enough to hold your bluetooth or ear-buds safely. Low profile slides easily into your shirt or jeans pocket.

Skin your phone!

Ok you don't actually skin the phone - you give it a skin. Instead of putting your phone in a bulky leather case that makes the sleek device you bought look like a monster, you could try giving it a skin and making it truly personal. I'm already on the way to buy one for my Nokia n900 but they also support a myriad of other devices including the Nexus One and Apple iPhone.

Nokia n900: Aluminium Case

Brando WorkShop aluminium hard case. Aircraft grade aluminium is used to make this case strong yet light in weight. Neoprene lining and 360 degree swivel belt clip are also added. Give heavy-duty protection for your phone!
