Chess: N900 vs 5233

I placed the n900s computer vs the Nokia 5233. And the results were interesting to say the least.

Notes:
    N900 in Expert Mode.

    Nokia 5233 in expert mode.

N900 was black and the 5233 is white.

Game in 40 moves.

Speculation: Nokia and it's N9

That's a same page who have example leaked C7, plus that's the same device we saw 3 months ago in that "advert".

Keyboard looks hot. It's ALL metal so that's sweet too. Now i just need the full specs and see meeGo-Harmattan running on it and i will be getting this next to my Galaxy S for sure.

Looks legitimate - on engadget now.

Best I found was the Galaxy S w/ 512mb RAM and 2gb ROM.
Xperia X10 has 384mb RAM maybe N9 could shoot for 768mb?

Though not as much as they used to, the Yen symbol hasn't been seen since the N810 ;)

Nokia N9: another nokia leak

With the frequent leaks coming from the Nokia Corp. faucet, one thinks whether it ain't high time for them to get a plumber to fix things up. We had the premature firmware release for the n900, then there was the nokia n8 leak and now this. It's starting to become so regular that perhaps Nokia has decided to make it a regular PR event.

The N9, Nokia’s new Flagship device is believed to run the brand spankin’ new MeeGo OS. It looks kind of quirky to me - like those digital diaries that were all the rage 10 years ago..
As you can see, the N9 improves on the Tilt-Slideout keyboard design of the N97 variants, and has a N8-ish metallic design to it, with pretty well spaced out chicklet keys.
The last pic made me decide that this device is too shabby. The N9 is written on a bit of plastic lodged into the keyboard bezel, and the pin connected to the side of the device looks to be a chinese after market make.

The Nokia N9 had been leaked to the WWW by Baidu and I got it from ZomgItsCJ

Nokia n8: a review came in

A review came in today of an experience with the nokia n8.. sadly no pics though. So I've attached a generic pic from Nokia so that you can fill your eyes with it as your dream about this little monster,,

Scale:
1-Trash it, 2-Only if no alternates, 3-Average, 4-Good, 5-Outstanding

Features (5/5)
The Nokia N8 is nothing less than a computer. 12MP camera with Xenon flash, 3.5 inch AMOLED display, Aluminium body, HDMI output, 3D Graphics Accelerator. Also included Quad band GSM and 5 band-yes thats right!!, a 5band support for UMTS / HSDPA... Phew!!
I think Nokia has done a terrific job of fitting all these in a small package. 5/5 for features.

Navigation(5/5)
Have to give a 5, though Nokia (Ovi) maps are not the best, but get the work done well, and its free..!! Satellite lock from cold start was pretty fast, and navigation was effortless.

Ergonomics (2/5) and Build Quality (3/5)
Encased by a aluminuim body (feels metal) which can withstand a ding or two without issues. Problem areas are the top and bottom covers which are flimsy, and are plastic.
The screen is capacitive, and touch response is good, better than other Nokia touchscreens. Home, Call connect and end keys-(3 physical keys), these are a nightmare, and are not tactile. The call connect and end buttons are the smallest that i have seen in any phone.
Otherwise, its a pleasure to hold the wide, and handy Nokia N8. The screen picks up fingerprint.
The SIM slot and microSD card slot, both are on the left side, and the cover had an annoying tendency to fall off.

Battery Life (3/5)- Initial results.
Ran the N8 with all connectivity options enabled, and it did manage to survive more than a day.

Camera (5/5)-Initial results.
Just one word-Amazing. Really good to see a Nokia produce images that can compete with any of the other 12MP smartphones. Colors look natural, not saturated or processed unlike other Nokia phones. Video is HD quality.

Speed (4/5)
The N8 is fast, but not in the league of iphone 3GS or for example a HTC Touch HD2(checked out with my friends), both of which feel lot smoother while transitioning between screens.

Connectivity (5/5)
Has it all. Quad Band GSM, 5 Band UMTS/HSDPA, PNP.

It's nice to see that people do read my blog ;)

Nokia N8: Compilations

The latest news roaming about the web concerning the Nokia N8. If you're one of those guys who've just come across this phone then you might want to check out Nokia's N8 page first. Then you could move onto a N8 roundup or just read Nokia N8: Behind the Scenes

The QWERTY keyboard on the N8 has been said to be slightly revamped especially for the vertical configuration. Jay Montano has written about it with a few pics at mynokiablog.

Glamour-wise the Nokia N8 is being acclaimed to be one of the best looking handsets out in the market right now. There also seems to be a little doubt floating about concerning the final design of the wrist-strap holes.

Rumours are already afloat as to the expected release date for the Nokia N8 with the latest date being the 24th of August. Amazon's Germany portal has already begun taking pre-orders for the Nokia N8 to satisfy early adopters and gadget freaks.

Nokia N8: The Begining

Allright here's the deal - I'm not gonna on and on about how the latest handset lets you connect to people or browse through social networks and ...
All right, so what makes the N8 special is that:
  • I like the metallic case
  • I might like the Symbian 3 iteration a.k.a Symbian^3
  • I like the 12 megapixel sensor
  • I like the way the body tapers at the top and bottom..
  • Everyone likes multitouch
  • I do not like the 1200mAh battery
  • I've always been impressed by HD
  • I like support for gestures such as multi touch, flick scrolling and pinch-zoom.

From what i figured in some of the Nokia videos, the OS seems to be far from finished. If you look closely you'll see that some of the UI examples show flawed transition effects and slow responses.
Here's a video that you might find interesting:

Nokia n900: As a Canvas?

Of all the things that I've seen being done with a Nokia n900, this is something that really caught my eye. These sketch are done using the Nokia N900 Phone + MyPaint 0.7.2 for Maemo 5 a.k.a Fremantle.Sketched by CreativeTone these pieces of art an example to the flexibility of apps and functions that the Nokia n900 and open source OS can support.

Nokia n900: Clocking 800MHz

And there you have it, a 800MHz clocking Nokia n900 - that's a 33% overclock over the stock 600MHz and it's all thanks to Letho's kernel. Titans kernel was also available but i felt an inclination towards this one. It's also a ultra low voltage kernel, which means that in this case the processor is running at (an assumed) 1.14v which is lower than the stock by a couple of milli volts. And that's more than enough to create a difference.

Overclocking the n900 is a real tough job because unlike 'traditional' overclockable systems this isn't a PC with fans or other active cooling systems - it's a phone that has features crammed into it so much that there's no space for anything more. Any extra heat that might be generated due to misbehaving code might fry the device and your pocket with it. This is a good reason to not keep your n900 in your pants pocket.

I'll let you know in a few days how i get along with the 800MHz n900 and of any stability/heating issues that hopefully won't crop up. If all goes well i might move onto overclock this baby all the way to 1GHz - and maybe fry an egg while I'm at it  ;).

Read the previous n900 overclock post here.

Nokia n97 firmware updated to 21.0.102

The Nokia n97 has recieved an only OverTheAir (OTA) update from v21.0.045 to v21.0.102. The new firmware has Mass Memory content updates, Oi Suite 2.0, Ovi player installation files and an update to the preloaded maps.

Seems to be a small step for Nokia, as this update comes after Nokia publicly apologized for the failure that is the Nokia N97. You can get a transcript of the chat from AAS here.
