Time Machine app for Nokia n97 and Nokia 5800
Time Machine is a cool count down / timer application for the Nokia 5800 and the Nokia N97. The graphic is awesome in this application, and the best part is that its a freeware application!
Change log in v1.03:
- alarm tone, there’s original ringing sound and… well, “modern” beep
- alarm volume (there’s still some problems with flash and sound volume, I can’t turn the phone louder from the buttons on the side of the phone, I would appreciate if someone could help me with that. Or is my phone broken…?)
- alarm style, now you can choose if it rings only once or forever. That’s 50 times actually, but it feels forever. Stop it by pressing Stop button…

Orkut Mobile App - Free Download for all Mobiles
Orkut app has been launched by Google with an aim to tap more into the mobile market along with it's mobile search and gMail apps. The main differences that divide the browser and application experience are the smooth transition effects while usage and easy to use menu, and an incredibly high data transfer. It just kept on using my EDGE connection to the max, continously, as the app kept trying to load all images (which it couldn't).
Another cool feature is the Contacts Menu. It incorporates both our Orkut contacts as well as the phone contacts into one making it easy to call or connect to a person, even message them. The app makes it real easy to view the Orkut albums and offers the choice to upload your display picture direct from your phone. The application design is almost like that of the gMail app, with only slight differences seen.
The Orkut app is available as a free download which you can get from the links above.

Loudspeaker app - change your phone into a virtual handsfree
SymbianGuru has just released a whole new software, LoudSpeaker, for Series 60 v3 phones and s60 v5 phones like the Nokia N95 and Nokia n97. LoudSpeaker works as your car wireless hands free set without any additional hardware. You can use it instead of your Bluetooth headset. Automatically accepting calls, LoudSpeaker turns on the Loudspeaker.
The software is fully customizable. You can choose the profile, when the software should be activated and answer your incoming calls.
You can set your own sound on answer and sound on hang up from the list of available tunes on your phone.
You should also set the pause (amount of seconds) after which the incoming call should be accepted automatically. There's a free trial download available at Symbianguru.
Key Features:
- Ability to answer the incoming call automatically
- Good and inexpensive alternative to your Bluetooth handsfree
- Activated on certain profiles
- Adjustable sounds on the call start and hang up
- Available for all Series 60.3/60.5 devices
- Translated into: Spanish, French, Italian, Russian and Ukrainian.
I'll post a review as soon as i get my copy !

Indian n97 seems to be spiced up well, how thoughtfull of them !
The stuff that come bundled are freeware for the N97 users, but other s60 5th edition users might have to shell out some cash to get hold of these apps. They should be available at Nokia's Ovi store soon.
According to Vaibhav, these are the apps that he believes will how up:
APPLICATIONS - According to what I know, the following applications will come pre-loaded.
- Wavesecure: To track, lock, backup and wipeout your device. You can even restore data via the internet. Quite similar to the new Apple offering.
- Keypad Lock: This application will appear everytime the keypad is locked. To unlock the device you will be able to simply drag your finger across the screen. There will be four screens available - Leaf, Nature, Curtain and Snow.
- System Status: A task manager with the ability to show battery and signal strength, Memory & RAM availability and close/kill applications.
- Other notable applications include Newshunt, a newspaper app with access to 15 Indian dailies in 9 Indian languages and Smart Guard, an application to protect/hide data such as contacts, messages and files/images.
GAMES - The will also come pre-loaded with the following games - The Sims™ 3, Guitar Rock Tour™, Brain Challenge and Marble Maze.
JAVA GAMES
VIDEO - It will pack 6 thirty minute episodes of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi‘.
WIDGETS - As far as Widgets go, there will be the usual Accuweather, Amazon, Facebook, Reuters, YouTube, Hi5 and Ovi. But when it comes to localised widgets, they are quite a number, you will have to see for yourself in the list below. The list is quite impressive with entries such as CNBC and Rediff Money for stock updates, Book My Show for movies, India Today and NDTV active for news, a Soccer widget and even a translator.
Neat eh ?

Re-Defining mobile computing
People everywhere are dumping desktop PCs for their more mobile versions as work starts getting home. Mobile computers were usually a niche belonging to the established PC manufacturers like Dell, HP and Lenovo but now more companies are starting to join the fray. The above is the latest newsletter from Nokias N97 members club. Claiming to provide users with an upgrade to a truly mobile computer the Nokia N97 out of the box is just the beginning. The device can be improved to keep it fresh with up-to-the-minute features, functions and fixes so it can do even more while being truly mobile. New software is planned to roll out in the second half of 2009, meaning that Nokia intends the N97 to be more a computer than a phone. In fact the upcoming Nokia N97 seems to be an actual Mobile Computing Platform in the making, especially with it's laptop like form factor when the qwerty keyboard is visible. It's touch screen interface gives it an alternate netbook like interface as well. With the look of things mobile computing could get a lot more cheaper for the users and a way more competitive for the manufacturers. Those members who have pre-ordered their new handsets will be one of the first in their country to receive the new Nokia N97. Expect an email from the online store shortly with delivery dates.

Free telephony through google maps
I recently discovered a fantastic new feature in Google Maps that can actually save me a lot of money. Here’s how it works.
Let’s say hypothetically that I’m sitting at work in the greater Des Moines, Iowa area and I want to pick up a delicious pizza from Papa Murphy’s on my way home from work. Unfortunately, though, I can’t call out from work to non-business numbers, though I can receive phone calls. Ah-ha! I go to Google Maps, type in “Papa Murphys West Des Moines IA and see the following:
See the “call” link I have circled in red? If you click that link, you’ll be asked to enter your telephone number. As soon as you click submit, your telephone will ring. Pick it up, wait a few seconds, and you’re connected for free to the business. No charges to you at all, and no outgoing call charges. This is spectacularly useful if you have any sort of long distance charges or if you have outgoing call charges on your telephone, whether it be a land line or a cellular phone.
In general, this technique seems to work for most businesses - I have used it to call dozens of businesses in the last several months and I can only recall one that was not listed using this service. It has been very useful for making restaurant reservations, calling businesses to check on their hours, and so forth. It’s a great way to utilize whatever phone is handy to make calls without eating away at my cell phone minutes and without being dinged for outgoing call charges.
What’s the drawback? So far, I haven’t found a drawback - it’s not always useful, but quite often it can save me some cash.
