Last days for Nokia N-Gage

When I first got my N82, I was so happy that there's a built in N-gage application in it. I made ways to get updates on the games and to download the latest games that N-gage will release. One of the best is the "One", my all time favorite. But this doesn't seem to work at all. I just heard some rumors that the N-gage gaming platform of Nokia will soon be closed.

What I like more in N-gage is that its bundled with my phone. No need for me to bring any additional gadget just to pacify me when I'm out waiting for stuff to happen. But it seems that the Market is not that fond of playing expensive N-gage games. Classic games has been released by N-gage like Worms World Party but competitors like PSP, Gameboy, Nintendo and other portable devices are still on top in the industry. The only problem with N-gage is that there's no way for you to transfer your paid content to a different device.
And neither does it support paypal.

What I heard is that it will soon close on September 2010, after these many years of service.

Nokia Losing Its Goodwill

Today when I was at an outlet of "The Mobile Store" near my hostel and overheard (I know it’s bad...but a one about Nokia got me Interested) a conversation between one of their managers

·        Area manager: - "So what is the share of Nokia in your sale??"

·        Store manager: - "36%"

·        Area manager:-"ah, I told you try to sell Nokia less and focus on LG, Samsung and other brands"

·        Store manager:-"But sir, the customer comes in with a firm decision to buy a Nokia”

·        Area manger: - "So convert them!!”

Convert them??!!!What are these people up to??

I was like maybe these people have more margin and hence try to sell other brands and maybe that’s same reason why the store manager kept barging about LG Veiwty when I asked him about Nokia N86 8MP and N97.

But after the area manger went I had light informal talk with the store manager about the audacity of their decision as to whether it was a formal company decision and if so why because it a decision against the No.1 brand in India...I was shocked to get a positive reply reasoning out that of course the margin was one of the reason but the major reason was that Nokia lagged in its after sales services and that the frustrated customer comes to them for a redressal. Now as a die hard Nokia fan it was disheartening to hear something about It..but deep down inside my heart I know how much pains I took to get my N95 repaired after just 2 months of use..And you people may also agree that Nokia after sales service is not up to the mark.

To end it I would just like to say that if a big mobile retailing company like "The Mobile Store" take an audacious decision to lower its sales in the no.1 mobile as well as consumer brand in India is something that Nokia should really consider. Because if the retailers give consumer a wrong impression of the brand the consumer may think twice before buying it....hence Nokia should work on its after sales services system to make it more consumer friendly and should also keep a healthy repo with its retailers and try to keep them happy...So that it doesn't lose its goodwill and trust among the people

Nokia cityman competition: It's a flame War!

The winners at nokia cityman competition are going berserk and
starting a full fledged flame war over there - inclusive of name
calling and what not.
It had all started with someone voicing up against photoshoped images
in the competition saying that it was a photography comp. But then
that was crap! I mean in the our modern world, a photo has to go
through an image processing app for getting it perfect. In the end the
competition hosts settled the prob.
Then recently some of the other competitors started fuming when one
contestant started getting a huge lead, claiming as many 100 votes in
a single night. Someone stated that it was cheating and soon the flame
spread.
Then comes the post:
Luke F says:
(Felbuts) Hey Jase i got everyone of our remote users to vote for ya.
Good lucky mate
This got people fired up thinking that felbuts was dialing remove IP
addresses and using it to vote. But it was later revealed that he was
merely asking his offsite workers to vote for him.
But by then, everythin had flamed up..

Vodafone Live! gets a speed boost

Vodafone Live! has just got faster in India. Today afternoon I took up the data
rate statistics of the download on the non-EDGE tower in my college
campus and realised that i'd got an average download rate of 6 kBps
with occasional peaks at 7 kBps. That's about the fastest I've seen on
a carrier in Kerala, and that too without edge activated. Nice!
Note: Speed was achieved on an N95-1.

The Nokia cityman competition: voting still goin on

The Nokia cityman competition is still going on and my rank has risen
to 5th place. But there's still miles to go to win this.
Vote for the pic with the tiger.

Nokia splits: Smartphones, mobile phones, and Solutions

The competition is starting to seem too much for Nokia to handle on
it's own. And so they're applying the East India Companys ideology of
divide and conquer on to themselves.
The Finnish handset maker is splitting it's phone business into three :
1. Smartphones, which will handle the nseries, eseries, xseries and
the other premium phones. It will focus entirely on expensive handsets
with cutting edge technology.
2. Mobilephones, which will focus on the conventional cell phones,
hoping for the quantity of sales to drive profits.
3. Solutions, they'll provide us with gaming and other services common
to both the other sections.

I wonder what happened to the "United we stand, Divided we fall" thing.

My Nokia: Find that Song

Nokia Tales: How Nokia overtook Ericsson

It all started when a lightning struck the Philips electronic factory in Albuquerque in the United States o America. Luckily minutes later the fire was out, but far away in Scandinavia this small event sparked a corporate crisis that shifted power between two of Europe’s largest cell phone companies- both Nokia and Ericsson had a critical dependency on computer chips from the Philips factory. But the damage caused by the fire would decrease the production capacity for weeks. While Ericsson was scrambling to find a solution the Nokia management used it's crisis management skills to scour the whole of Europe to find alternate sources of chips. And within a fe days they had setup a network that would get them through without any fall in production.
Pertti Korhonen, the chief trouble-shooter for Nokia, said afterwards. ‘A crisis is the moment when you improvise.’
By the time Ericsson woke up from the daze, Nokia had taken all that was left at factory in Albuquerque , and had done the same with most other suppliers. In the end, Ericsson lost around US$600 million of revenue and 50 per cent of market share and subsequently had to be rescued by linking with Sony to sell any handsets - thus forming Sony Ericsson.

This article has been sourced from an article titled An information security crisis is the time you improvise. There's another article which you might be interested in if you're into art, it's titled "Didactic Science through Art with Diego Rivera".

A chance for you to make me happy, very !

The Nokia blog has published the shortlist for the title of Cityman of the year.. and I'm in the list !Yeah!!

But that ain't enough, so you guys would really make me really really happy if you could vote for me over there, this is my pic:

So now we might get 20MP cams?

But what's the use ? 5 megapixels give 28x36 cms printing size. 8
gives a whole lot more. 20MP would give you what, a wallpaper ?
Anyway, it seems there are people around who think of it as a good
enough investment and so Texas Instruments have announced their latest
OMAP DM5x series coprocessors that aim at providing processing
performance to crunch enough numbers to give you 20 megapixels worth
of images or 720p camcorder functionality.
It comes with all the necessary software drivers as well to allow
manufacturers to implement them quickly on camera phones.

Nokia N97: As a carputer

And just when i thought that I'd seen everything the Nokia N97 could do, comes an N97 as a carputer. And it does look the part too.

I've placed the n97 carputer on the instrument cluster. Usually we place them either side of the cluster but I find it more comfortable this way. Seating the Nokia N97 is done with a leather cloth that is used to keep cell phones from skidding of dashboards. eBay has lots of them for a couple of bucks.

For carputing sessions I've installed an app called GTXi. It's like the one app all gear-heads have to carry. It's grreat! Sitting right there within the cluster it provides you with lots of data about your run. For example, after i tune my car or do any additional performance modifications I could use this app on a test run and it would provide me with details like acceleration time graphs, top speed per run, and a whole array of charts. Saves me the time and money of using a dyno. And the best part is that the app is fully automatic. It detects movement or deceleration of the vehicle and data logging is controlled - so i can keep my eye on the road. The N97s touchscreen makes it all a lot easier to handle. The output the software was able to provide usign the N97s GPS module wasn't accurate. I've provided the program output below and a video of the same car during a 0-100 kph session.

Using map software with the phone in this position also turned out great. Because the map is open right there beside the speedo it doesn't steal much road attention. And again the touchscreen is a great help.

The N97s FM transmission picked up by my cars entertainment system makes sure that i don't have to write and rewrite CDs and flash drives. Saves a lot of the irritation that comes with using music CDs in the car. If you'd care to connect the 3.5mm jack then you'll be able to pick up and answer calls as well without having to spend on a hands-free kit.

GTXi program output:

Wirelessly charging your battery.. that should be chic

Headset cables have been replaced by bluetooth headsets. USB cables
can be substituted by WiFi. The only thing that still seems to tether
our cell phones is the charger wire and plug. Now if that were to go
away we'd have a truly wireless cell phone.

And that's just what seems to be coming from around the next corner.
Dell computers had released this week a laptop, the LatitudeZ, that
features wireless charging by using inductive pads. It works
elegantly, and it's charging performance is compared to the
conventional cabled power input.

So what's keeping cell phone manufacturers from using them ? Cost
should be the issue as the Dell system offers this as an option for
199$. Hopefully, the cost should lower as the competition increases
and size decreases.
Looks chic eh ?

Nokia N97 : freeware update to v20.0.005

The nokia n97 just got its v20 series firmware update closely
following the release of the same for the nokia n86 multimedia
computer.

Other than the usual bug fixes and more efficient memory management,
kinetic scrolling has been added throughout the phone interface
including all apps. Now that's uber cool! An updated browser is also
in the mix. The dialer now features embedded letters along with the
numbers.

And they've inserted the Nokia Connecting people slogan into the
handshake cinematic. No sign of the punch cinematic though, they'd
promised that earlier this year.

Opera mini 5 beta: Keep distance

Opera mini 5 beta, the new free app from Opera, isn't all that it is
hyped to be. Most of it's new featured have ended in something
missing.
The copy function is limited to within the app. We can't use it to
copy to the system clipboard.
The inline text entry has been remade such that it doesn't bring up
the native text entry box. But with it went predictive text entry and
everything else.
No doubts about it, the New multiple tabs function is great.
The graphic interface is confusing and consuming. Too much graphics
makes the Mini lose it's simplistic appeal.
And where is the synchronize button ??!

Opera gets new servers in the Americas

Along with the new free software browser from Opera, the opera mini 5
beta, they've also announced the opening of new data centers in the
Americas for faster data processing and to handle the increased
traffic. Even though the servers are in America, users around the
world are likely to see enhanced speeds as the load on the system is
reduced. Yea!

Opera mini 5 - get your full free download

I just saw that the Opera mini 5 beta is up for download. Now this is
something i'v been waiting for for a long time. I've jumped over to
the opera mini portal and queued up the new mini for download - a
222kb download. But before you install it, make sure you've
synchronised your old opera mini app so that you don't have configure
everything all over again.
Have fun with the Opera mini software guys. This must be the best free
browser software in the whole world wide web !

Nokia n97s: thoughts on both of them

I've been using the n97 for the last couple of months. It's a great
phone if you're into social networking and surfin' the web. It's
durable, good build, and has good battery life.
It's external speakers are only good for voice output, use headphones
if you want to hear music - it's headphone output is real good. The
screen is virtually scratch proof, and the qwerty keyboard is good as
well.
Between this and the mini, the mini has subtle design differences like
no D pad, no camera lens cover, and only 8 gb of storage but since
it's expandable there's no problems. The mini feels better in your hand.

Nokia n97 mini: working it's way to us

Nokia n97 mini - the mini cooper of social networking smartphones has
been cleared by the FCC for sale in the United States of America.
Along with this model of the Nokia nseries, comes other 2 phones that
have been submitted by Nokia for clearance - a RM-385 which is the
Nokia 3608, and a RH-128. From my experience the RH phone probably
would end up to be some low end phone as most rh series are budget
phones and the best that series has done is the nGage QD which soon
ended up as software.
