Cons on the N95 firmware update..

George has left a new comment on your post "N95 FirmwWare updated too!":

Hi, I did the update too and I am really very very disappointed and very angry. And this is because I lost the tracking feature. It was a main reason to buy the phone and Nokia has not the right to take it back in this snaky way.A friend who has the same N95 and bought it about the same time didn't update and still has the feature (laughing at me). What is also unacceptable is the stupid answer of Nokia (to people who e-mailed it for this) that the feature was promotional or trial and so limited. Bullshit!! Nobody told that before we bought the phone or nowhere this was written in the adds. And the proof is that I had the feature for 9 months until I updated.Plus my friend who didn't update still has it and will have it if not update. Its only a cheap trick to make us pay for navigation which changed my opinion for Nokia until it apologize and give us the feature back. I payed for the phone with the tracking feature and so it belongs to me.This is a rip off. Sorry Nokia ,BIG mistake and against the law. I have spent hours and hours for this story and I am furious. If someone has a solution I'll be glad to see it as I will not stop reacting for my rights on this matter. thanks

N95 firmwares are on the loose!

It looks like Nokia is going all guns blazing to keep the Nokia N95 owners happy. After yesterday’s long awaited update for the N95-3, today comes an update for its 8GB sibling. The latest firmware for the N95-4 is now v20.2.005 and is available via NSU.

Early reports at FinestFones from Goldskin and Mrweiser say that the N95-3 is now much faster in booting up, starting the camera(and saving pictures) and in general use which implies that demand paging is now present on the N95-3.

The search application has now been integrated into the standby screen AND Flash Lite 3 is now added to the browser meaning that flash videos from sites (NOT just YouTube) will play beautifully without the need for any 3rd party software.
The N95-3 update includes, but not limited to ;)
  • - Flash Lite 3 Support
  • - Faster Bootup
  • - Much Faster Camera
  • - Integrated Search
  • - Demand Paging - Phone gets faster
  • - No ASR
  • - N-Gage Demos

The N95 8GB update on the other hand seems to have nothing much than some under the hood touch-ups according to my friend Vaibhav.

E90 gets a firmware update as well!

The E90 has got updated Firmware! Version 200.34.72 is out and it brings a lot of new goodies like Flash Lite 3.

Below you can read the changes between 7.40.1.2 to 7.200.34.72

  • Flash Lite 3 added, with Flash video support
  • Support for Web runtime is probably here as well, it tends to come along with FL3 - can anyone confirm this?
  • Maps won’t open (for me, at least), you get instructed to go to the web for the latest version. Clumsy. On the web, v1.0 is shown and v1.02 is served up, which at least installs and runs fine. I’m sure the latest v2.0 beta would, too.
  • New ‘Set up Internet telephony’ shortcut on standby screen
  • Includes Quickoffice 4.1.27.5, many enhancements over the old 3.85, although without the extra functions of the v4.5 and v5.0 paid upgrades. There are also extra options in Quickmanager, specifically more rebrands of Epocware products. The new Quickoffice is apparently back-ported from the version which will be standard in S60 3rd Edition FP2.
  • Application opening and booting seem faster. I don’t think that v200 has demand paging though - seems more like optimisations.
  • A boat load of bug fixes and tweaks. The ‘Today’/# bug in Calendar seems to have gone away.
